When a Mother Dies


There is no equal for the loss of goodness. In this Human Meme podcast episode, David Boles reflects upon the memory of the life of Janet Sweenie, who recently died in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 89. Janet was born in Columbus, Nebraska and lived a modern life of language, the Lord, and longing.

Janet Sweenie dedicated her life to service. She was a lamb of God, and she donated much of her life to serving the Council Bluffs and Omaha Deaf Communities. Janet was a founding member of the Council Bluffs Deaf Church. She was an early volunteered for Deaf Missions. She was an Iowa School for the Deaf dorm mother; and she passed the interpreter certification program at IWCC.

Janet was also a member of the Red Hats Society. She was a member of the Council Bluffs Senior Center. She was a leader in her Christian’s Women’s group. She was a member of several Churches over her lifetime, including the Broadway Christian Church here in Council Bluffs.

Janet was also a volunteer with the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry where she taught Bible studies to incarcerated women. She was also a sponsor for women in drug court. Janet was a dedicated Sunday School teacher her entire lifetime.

Janet Sweenie was a great mother, good grandmother, excellent great-grandma -- and best friend to anyone who needed one.
